Owning a puppy is a great experience for both you and your family although this shouldn’t be seen as an object to entertain yourselves, but also as a fact that your family has increased in the number of members. It is true, acquiring a puppy is like having a new member within your family core, therefore a great deal of attention should be paid to him. Training is also part of taking care of your puppy and should be considered with a lot of importance because this can build a strong character for your puppy within the process of growing up.
Although many puppy owners go by the belief that the puppy-hood is not the proper period of life to start training the pet dog, it is wrong to believe this. In fact, the earlier you start the training, the better for your puppy. If you postpone the training, you will allow the puppy to get hold of bad habits and bad manners which you will have hard times later in the adulthood to get rid of.
The right period of training should begin with the 10th week of puppy existence. At this age your puppy will be old enough to be able to keep his attention focused on the short training sessions. The following tips will help you have an easy start with the training:
* Have patience and do not show any irritation or abusive gestures in the training process. This start should be made in a tactful manner as depending on this tact, your puppy will have a good perception of what you try to do with him.
* Introduce the training through short sessions in the early months of age.
* Go mostly with the basics, such as sits and stays for several seconds and no longer.
* Build the confidence in your puppy by being proactive and not reactive.
* Focus on those commands and behaviors that are age appropriate and important to you as well. They are as follows: sit, down, walk on a leash, come when being called, no jumping, no biting, no nipping. Along with these the usual ones are crate and house training.
When reaching for training sessions, make all these in a funny manner. When your puppy is around 4 months or more and the vaccinations are completed for that age you should subscribe your pet dog to a group obedience lesson. Through this type of session he will learn how to control his reactions when being around other people and dogs. It is like teaching him good manners in society. At these types of sessions, your puppy will have the chance to play and develop his temperament in an environment other than his home place.
